BROWNS SIGN DAVID VEIKUNE
The Cleveland Browns today signed linebacker David Veikune, the third of the team’s three second-round choices in the 2009 NFL Draft, the club announced. Veikune was the 52nd overall selection of the draft. Also on Sunday, the Browns waived wide receiver Devale Ellis.

The Cleveland Browns today signed offensive lineman Alex Mack, its first-round pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the team announced. Mack was the 21st overall selection of the draft. Also on Saturday, the team waived linebacker David Holloway.

As we reported on Thursday, the Browns began to focus on Alex Mack as their next priority after signing four of their Day 2 choices. After a false alarm yesterday, the Browns and Mack have agreed to a contract believed to be five years in length and with over $12 million in guaranteed money.

I’m not a big believer in eliminating competition, so I’ve never been a huge fan of the EA Madden franchise since they pushed out others (like Sega, which had an awesome NFL game). Regardless of their position in the industry, EA has continued to move the Madden series forward over recent years.
