Your Wednesday Evening Link Dumpage - Wed, Jul 15 2009 at 11:00 pm
The daily link dumps, like all Barry-written features, hang on a thread of minuscule available time each and every day. It takes only the slightest push to pop them out of the web editors into the digital ether. The appearance of free beer also threatens completion of the link dump
Today was especially tricky, as I got pushed out of my usual digs and to a much less stable cardboard box (I really need the corrugated stuff to feel at home) because of some work being done in OBR World Headquarters. So, my apologies for the late link dump today.
Big news of the day, relatively speaking, was the official press release noting the Browns’ signing of CB Coye Francies, DB Don Carey, and RB James Davis, none of which really come as a surprise to anyone who has been tracking this site, as the Browns appear to be working “bottom up” to sign draft picks. This news item is available both on our blogs and our front page at cle.scout.com. Three young players were released as well, as now shown on the OBR roster page.
So, nothing against all the fine media entities which produced articles on this story, but I’m going to leave it off the link dump since it’s pretty well known. Nothing personal.
CONSARNIT: Is that how you spell it? Whatever… I need to get my geezer lingo up to speed as I stumble through my 40s (me = old). The Ravens signed LB Terrell Suggs to a long-term deal. It seems like Suggs has been around a long time, but he’s still only 26 with a lot of good football left in him.
HELLO, NAVEL: The Browns official site takes a look at the team’s situation at wide receiver.
THIS OK, RUPERT? Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com provides a look at the AFC North with exactly the sort of well-written and insightful prose that one expects from the modern pinnacle of sports journalism that also happens to send me paychecks every two weeks.
ATHLETES + BOOZE = BLOG: Lawrence Vickers is shown “Getting his drink on” in a blog called “Shot of Ginn”. There could be one of these for webmasters, but no one would be able to keep up. Most of us would be willing to set up 24×7 boozecams, as long as there’s some free beer in it.
TONGUE MEET CHEEK MEET ESPIES: Cleveland Reboot has conducted its first annual 2009 Media Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. I couldn’t imagine a higher compliment than being recognized for working hard, regardless of our other successes/failures/TheSmokingGun.com appearances.
ALUM WATCH: Abe Gidron joins the Michigan City Football Hall of Fame.
A PERMANENT MEME? Donte Stallworth continues to be the poster child regarding rage about lenient sentencing. I dunno, the US is pretty good about putting people in jail. Say what you want, but when it comes to locking people up, the USA is #1.
DRAFT DAY BARGAINS, AMIRITE? Yahoo Sports! thinks the Browns are pretty useless from a fantasy football perspective.
OUT OF THE TWITTERVERSE: For Browns fans these days, the start of the football season represents of a time of anticipation and pain… But the countdown continues regardless… This is sort of the expression that I would have on my face if I was ever to enter the field of play… Yes, I can imagine someone trying to sell this to Steeler fans. It could be used to hide a bit of that rusted-out dryer, after all… Looks like Sirius will be in Berea on 8/5… that’s all from Twitterland.
